Dr. Sete Tibenda, who has been serving as the District Health Officer (DHO) of Rubirizi, officially retired from government service and was commended for his remarkable contributions to the health sector in Rubirizi District.
Dr. Sete assumed office as the DHO of Rubirizi in 2015 at a time when the district had many health challenges and only a few health centers. Under his leadership, the district now has over 10 Health Centre IIs and one Health Centre IV. Although he has retired, Dr. Sete still holds the dream of establishing a district hospital, securing a government ambulance, and upgrading Katerera to a Health Centre IV. These projects remain in the pipeline, and he encouraged those who remain to continue pursuing them to improve healthcare in Rubirizi.
According to Dr. Aidah Nankyinga, the current District Health Officer of Rubirizi the former in-charge of Rugazi Health Centre IV, she deeply appreciated the work done by the outgoing DHO. She praised his efforts and commitment, especially the projects he initiated which are still ongoing.
She pledged to continue building on his work, particularly in strengthening healthcare in Rubirizi. She emphasized teamwork among health workers, the community, and leaders to ensure the delivery of effective healthcare services.
Hon. Abibu Kapalaga, the District Councilor for Rubirizi Town Council and former District Chairperson, who witnessed the handover, urged all government employees to start preparing for retirement early by saving and investing in family-based projects for a secure future.
He encouraged public servants to collaborate, work diligently, and uphold professional ethics while serving the community wholeheartedly. He stressed that it’s wise for individuals to start saving and initiating projects while they are still healthy so that they don’t suffer after leaving government service, especially the young generation.
Mr. Murongo Esawo, the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (DISI) of Rubirizi, confirmed the retirement of Dr. Sete Tibenda, noting that it followed government guidelines where public servants retire upon reaching the age of 60. He officially handed over the office and was also recorded in government retirement records.
He urged all government workers to continue working with commitment, love, and customer care so they can be appreciated when their time to retire comes. Mr. Murongo appreciated Dr. Sete for his dedicated and heartfelt service to Rubirizi, noting that he left behind a strong and unforgettable legacy.
He praised him for fighting corruption, collaborating with stakeholders, and handling his responsibilities with great accountability
